Seattle-headquartered UNITE HERE Local 8 is reporting a union organizing win among food service workers at the Portland International Airport.
HMSHost, which runs concessions under a contract with the Port of Portland, agreed to voluntarily recognize the union if a majority of its 176 Portland airport employees signed union cards. On Sept. 30, a neutral arbitrator determined that a majority did sign cards.
UNITE HERE represents thousands of employees in airport concessions and airline catering industries at airports in the U.S. and Canada.
HMSHost — formerly known as Host Marriott Services Corporation — is a subsidiary of the Italian multinational Autogrill.
At the Portland airport, HMSHost employees staff Starbucks Coffee, Gustav’s Pub & Grill, Rogue Ales Public House, and Rose’s Restaurant and Bakery.
