The Northwest Oregon Labor Council, AFL-CIO, hosted the first joint appearance of the 2012 campaign for Portland mayor on Nov. 16, 2011. More a forum than a debate, candidates Eileen Brady, Charlie Hales and Jefferson Smith talked up their agenda for working people, and answered questions from unionists, which were read by Oregon AFL-CIO communications director Elana Guiney.
The mayoral forum was preceded by a three-way forum for Portland City Council candidates — Amanda Fritz and Mary Nolan, and Steve Novick.
City Council and mayor are non-partisan offices. The election will take place May 2012. If no candidate gets more than 50 percent, voters would choose between the top two vote-getters in November 2012.

The complete event is online here. Â The video quality isn’t great. But it’s an informative discussion, and the public’s first side-by-side look at the candidates. The mayoral portion of the forum begins just over an hour into the video, at 1:01:00.
