Do Good Multnomah — a nonprofit that provides housing and behavioral health support to homeless individuals — agreed to voluntarily recognize its employees’ choice to unionize with Oregon AFSCME, the two organizations announced jointly on Sept. 16.

Do Good Multnomah contracts with Multnomah County to operate homeless shelters, subsidized housing, and mental health counseling.

“By voluntarily recognizing the union, Do Good Multnomah is setting a positive example in the nonprofit sector by supporting employees’ rights to organize and negotiate for better working conditions,” said Oregon AFSCME in a press statement.

The union recognition brings 270 workers into a union that already represents workers at other major homeless service providers, including Central City Concern, Transition Projects, and Home Forward.

The two parties will now meet to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement.
