BULL Session donates $300,000 to charitiesSmiles were in plentiful supply at Providence Child Center in Northeast Portland Dec. 11, where 10 charities were presented with $300,000 from the BULL (Business Union Legislative Leaders) Session golf tournament and auction. For 12 years the BULL Session has been bringing together local businesses, unions and legislative leaders to raise money for charities. "The first year of our tournament we donated $5,000," said Jim Moss, president of the 35-member all-volunteer committee that oversees the tournament - which has become one of the premier fundraising tournaments in Oregon. Moss, a former officer of the Plumbers Union, is senior vice president at the money management firm of McMorgan and Co. The $300,000 raised this year was a record for the organization - and put it over the $1.4 million mark in total contributions. "It makes us feel good to be able to raise this money and give it to such worthwhile groups," said Keith Edwards, business manager of Electrical Workers Local 48. The union and the Oregon/Columbia Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association are title sponsors of the BULL Session. "It's been a challenging fundraising year for us and many charities," said Pat Budo, director of Providence Child Center. "We appreciate this very much." Other children's charities benefiting were Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Gales Creek Camp Foundation, Hearing & Speech Institute, Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Shriners Hospital for Children, Special Olympics Oregon and the Wheel to Walk Foundation. The BULL Session and auction were held Sept. 9-10 at the Benson Hotel and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. Over 350 guests attended the dinner/auction and 480 golfers registered for the tournament. Next year's event is slated for Sept 8-9 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club. For more information on how to get involved as a sponsor or to play, call 503-224-8008.
