Carpenters Union pulls out
of AFL-CIO
- The 500,000-member United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners announced March 29 that it was disaffiliating with the national AFL-CIO because of differences in the direction of the labor movement.
Labor unites on plan for BPA power
- The Oregon AFL-CIO and Washington State Labor Council have joined with the United Steelworkers of America to support a plant for continuing Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) power sales to aluminum companies, while committing those companies to develop alternative power sources and achieve energy self-sufficiency in five years.
ATU Local 757 sues Laidlaw for violation
of Corvallis wage law
- The union seeks $250,000 in damages, among other reimbursements.
Portland School District custodians
get the axe mid-year
- Local 140 files grievance after pink slips go out to 20 full-time and 64 part-time custodians.
