Harold Phillips

By DON McINTOSH

Union actor Harold Phillips is wrapping up a run as a Portland-area labor activist; after close to three decades in Portland, he and his wife Trish Egan are moving to Bellingham, Washington, in November to be closer to family.

In September, the board of the Portland SAG-AFTRA local appointed Scott Rogers to the fill Phillips’ seat as vice president.

Phillips has been active as a delegate to the Northwest Oregon Labor Council and the Southwest Washington Central Labor Council, and in February received the latter’s In Solidarity award for his record of encouraging others. Phillips brought a relentlessly positive persona to his labor work, and devoted himself as a “signal booster” spreading the word whenever a union needed support. In 2020 he helped set up the Labor Radio Podcast Network, a web directory of union podcasts from around the country. Phillips says he’ll continue to produce Southwest Washington Central Labor Council’s podcast, working remotely from Bellingham.
