After a two-year COVID hiatus, apprentice competitions for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters are back. Apprentices at UA Local 290 spent the weekend of April 30-May 1 at their Tualatin training center competing in four categories: fitting, plumbing, welding and HVAC.

This year’s event was open to apprentices in their 7th to 10th terms who had proof of vaccination.

Winners will go on to the District 5 competition in Fresno, California, and if they win there, to the national event in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Top placers got prizes, including top of the line tools donated by Milwaukee. First prize winners each got a custom smoker.
