Fire, possibly arson, at Voz day laborer center

Share

Early morning April 6, a fire destroyed a minibus and damaged offices of nonprofit Voz Workers Rights Education Project at 4707 NE 102nd Ave Portland.

The group had relocated to that location in February after many years on MLK Jr. Boulevard. Voz runs a hiring hall dispatching day laborers to employers and offers other services, including English classes.

The bus, purchased six months ago, was used to take laborers to and from jobs, and had recently returned to operation after its catalytic converter and battery were stolen.

The building and the bus were covered by insurance, but Voz is also seeking donations to help recover, at https://gofund.me/a8795864
