Oregon AFL-CIO holds convention this weekend at Portland Hyatt

It’s six months delayed, but the Oregon AFL-CIO will hold its biennial convention in person March 18-20. The convention will draw up to 300 delegates and guests to the all-union Hyatt Regency Portland across from the Oregon Convention Center. Oregon AFL-CIO coordinates union activity, and is the federation most of the state’s unions belong to.

They’ll watch debates between candidates for governor and labor commissioner, and they’ll honor outstanding union members and state lawmakers who went the extra mile for working people.

They’ll also hear from Liz Shuler, who became national AFL-CIO president last year after the death of Richard Trumka. Shuler is a native Oregonian and first became active in the union movement working for IBEW Local 125, the electric lineman’s local her dad is a member of.

Delegates will also conduct convention business, voting on resolutions that set policy, hearing reports from Oregon AFL-CIO president Graham Trainor and secretary-treasurer Christy O’Neill, and attending skills workshops and panel discussions.
