Local union training centers have come together in a friendly competition to help raise toys for children of union families going through hardship. All toys collected will be distributed at Labor’s Community Services Agency’s (LCSA) Presents from Partners holiday “Day of Giving” in mid-December.

“Due to COVID issues and supply chain disruptions, toy donations are predicted to be much lower than what LCSA needs in order to serve the children in need,” said LCSA Executive Director Eryn Byram. “We really thank these apprentices for being such a wonderful part of our labor community.”

Who is in the competition? Apprentices from  the Laborers, IBEW, Sheet Metal Workers, Iron Workers, Carpenters, Painters and Allied Trades, Plumber & Pipefitters, Operating Engineers, and Cement Masons.

The program that collects the most toys will have bragging rights for one year, and be recognized in the NW Labor Press.

Of course, the big winners of the toy drive will be the children.

Details:

  • LCSA will drop off a toy donation box with signage to each training center.
  • Collect toys through Nov. 30.
  • The competition will be decided on who submits the most 32-45 gallon garbage bags full of toys (filled to the top and twist tied). Can your affiliated local or credit union help out? Of course! All toys turned in will be credited to your training center, no matter where you got them.
  • All toys need to be bagged and ready for LCSA pickup on Thursday, Dec. 2, so that volunteer elves can get them prepped for the 500 kids LCSA expects to serve. Toys should be new and unwrapped.
