John Mohlis, retired executive secretary of the Oregon State Building Trades Council, was recently elected chair of SAIF. Corp. SAIF is Oregon’s not-for-profit workers compensation insurance company. Its five-member board of directors is appointed by the governor. Mohlis was appointed by Governor Kate Brown in 2018. Terms are four years.

When he was working, Mohlis, a member of Bricklayers Local 1, served on the Management-Labor Advisory Committee (MLAC), the so-called “gatekeeper” to changes in workers’ compensation law in Oregon. He also served three terms as a commissioner on the Portland Development Commission, and two terms on the Oregon State Apprenticeship Council.

SAIF’s vice-chair is Maurice Rahming, president of Portland-based union-signatory electrical contractor O’Neill Electric. Also on the board are Krishna Balasubramani, an employer-side attorney; Jeff Stone, CEO of the Oregon Association of Nurseries; and Jenny Ulum, a public relations executive in Eugene.
