Union Organizing

A union win Sept. 22 would be the first at one of the area’s largest nonunion industrial employers.

The group was invited to make the case for opening union bargaining to the public.

At Oaks Amusement Park in Portland, a crowd estimated at 12,000 turned out for a picnic sponsored by the Northwest Oregon Labor Council.

At a union-sponsored Labor Day picnic, a suggestion that Merkley run in 2020 got enthusiastic applause.

It’s the latest action by the Burgerville Workers Union, which has been campaigning for affordable health benefits and a $5 an hour raise.
