A Fund for the Public Interest work station
WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Without naming the employer, the Labor Press sent this picture — of a work station at the Fund for the Public Interest’s Portland call center — to Oregon OSHA director Michael Wood. “There are some obvious areas of concern,” Wood said. “The first one is that the chair and the work table aren’t adjustable. That means they’re only going to fit some workers. Also, the chair has a slight tilt to it; if you’re going to have a fixed chair, you’d actually want a straight-backed chair. The biggest concern with the chair is the angle of the back, which would be fine for sitting in a conference room if you’re leaning back slightly listening to a speaker. But if you’re leaning forward in this chair or sitting straight up, you will not be in contact with the back of the chair, and of course there IS no lower back support to the chair.”
