Machinists endorse Castillo, Wu, Holvey, Riggs-Henson

The Machinists Non-Partisan Political League (MNLP) endorsed Susan Castillo for re-election as Oregon superintendent of public instruction.

Castillo, a Democrat, is seeking a third term in the non-partisan race. She is being challenged by Ron Maurer, a Republican state legislator from Grants Pass. The winner of the May primary will win election outright.

Castillo’s endorsement came April 24 at the Oregon Machinists Council meeting in Astoria. MNPL is the political arm of the Machinists Union.

MNPL issued Democratic primary endorsements to 1st District Congressman David Wu; State Rep. Paul Holvey of Eugene, and Pat Riggs-Henson, a retired member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees running for Lane County Board of Commissioners.

MNPL tabled a request by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden to purchase tickets to a fundraising event at the Rose Garden on May 15. Delegates said they were “troubled” by the Democratic senator’s continued support of free-trade agreements.

Earlier this year, MNLP endorsed Brad Witt for re-election as state representative in House District 31.
