COPE voting records released

SALEM, OR -- The Oregon AFL-CIO's Committee on Political Education (COPE) released its scorecard of voting records for the 69th Legislative Assembly.

Six Democratic senators and 19 Democratic state representatives had 100 percent scorecards.

On the flip side, eight Republican senators and seven Republican representatives voted against labor 100 percent of the time.

The best mark for a Republican, whose party controlled both chambers, was 71 percent (5-2) by Senator John Lim of Gresham and 50 percent (4-4) by Representative Tom Brian of Tigard. The worst record for a Democrat was Senator Mae Yih of Albany at 33 percent (2-4-1) and Representative Kurt Schrader of Canby at 63 percent (5-3).

"This session there were a lot of defining issues," said Brad Witt, secretary-treasurer of the state labor federation. "It was a matter of which side are you on."

Oregon AFL-CIO lobbyists selected eight bills in the House and seven bills in the Senate to compile its voting records.
